History

Founded in 1968 by neighborhood parents and teachers during the NYC teacher’s strike to provide young people in the neighborhood with academic and cultural enrichment. The program was an immediate success, and the decision was made to continue the program even after the strike ended.

We…

CASW strives to reach youth with fragile family support systems, many of whom are recently arrived immigrants.

We provide strong academic support for those at risk of dropping out of school.

We offer numerous activities that build self-reliance and conflict resolution skills.

Mission

Our mission is to provide young people in Northern Manhattan and the Bronx with an environment that nurtures youth leadership skills and fosters positive attitudes for the future. Year round, CASW offers educational, recreational, cultural, and employment programs during out of school time. CASW currently provides programming to over 3000 youth and their families.
