About Us:
Children’s Arts and Science Workshops (CASW) is a non-profit organization created to engage at-risk youth in a range of age-appropriate programs and activities that will increase their self-esteem and confidence, and prepare them to participate fully as productive members of society. CASW provides services at sites throughout the Bronx and upper Manhattan. In partnership with the Department of Youth and Community Services, our programs serve youth from kindergarten to college, all year round. We celebrate more than 55 years as a fixture, not just in various NYC communities, but in the lives of countless young people.
Job Description:
The College Readiness Advisor is responsible for Providing comprehensive guidance, and support to high school students interested in attending pre-college programs. This role involves building relationships with high school counselors, promoting pre college programs, and assisting students with the application and enrollment process. The ideal candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, a passion for education, and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
Responsibilities:
- Outreach And Recruitment:
- Develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan to increase participation from local high Schools
- Build and maintain relationships with high school Counselors and Administrators
- Conduct presentations and information sessions at high schools and community organizations
- Represent the college readiness program at College fairs and other events
- Student Advising:
- Provide academic and career counseling to students
- Assist students with application and enrollment process
- Offer guidance on program selection course registration and housing options
- Serve as a liaison between students faculty and staff
- Program Coordination:
- Collaborate with Community stakeholders to ensure smooth program operations
- Assist with program Logistics including scheduling housing and transportation
- Monitor student progress to provide support as needed
- Evaluate program Effectiveness and recommend improvements
- Data Management:
- Maintain accurate student records and program data
- Prepare reports and analyses as required
- Utilize student Information Systems to track student progress and outcomes
Qualifications:
Successful candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Hold an associate’s degree with a minimum of 3 years experience or comparable qualifications
- Experience working with high school populations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build relationships with students parents and school personnel
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
Work Environment and Position Details:
- Located in a BEACON Community Center, but partners with/in Local High school settings
- Salary: $30 per hour with a maximum 29 hours per week
- Benefits: 56 hours paid sick leave per fiscal year
- Schedule: Morning schedule required 9am preferred start time with flexible end times no later than 3pm depending on program needs.
