From Cookies to Community: Girl Scouts Celebrate Galentine’s Day in the Bronx

Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to celebrate bonds of all kinds – specifically that of friendship. And furthermore, when it comes to empowering young women, having close relationships with other women – both role models and peers – is invaluable. Thus, what better celebration than Galentine’s Day –  a holiday celebrated in conjunction with Valentine’s Day that honors the power of female friendships. This February, Girl Scout Troop 1619 held their very own festivities at Bronx River Community Center, which turned out to be a girls’ day with treats, fun, friendly competition, and much more!!!

Troop 1619’s Festivities: A Day of Fun, Games, and Connection

Our very own Girl Scout Troop 1619 held a Galentine’s Day celebration in which they celebrated one another and other women in their lives. The event was replete with an icebreaker bingo activity and a botanical lego building competition. This was an excellent opportunity for the girls in question to become better acquainted with one another and build on their connection as a team. This event also served as a culmination of past projects – since it included an acknowledgment of who sold the most cookies within the last season.

If you’re a fan of girl scout cookies, keep your eyes peeled around the Bronx River area, since Troop 1619 will continue to sell all the way through March!

Girl Power in Action: Why Events Like This Matter

In truth, this type of event is our bread and butter as an organization that serves NYC youth. Not only does it serve to teach and inspire the next generation of female leaders, but it’s a vital part of fostering one of our greatest values: community.
