CASW Profiles – Melody Pujols

Children’s Arts and Science Workshops is comprised of a multitude of individuals of different backgrounds and talents. We’re big believer of the idea that this is something that makes us strong as an organization. This month, in our latest edition of CASW Profiles, meet Melody Pujols – our communications specialist/senior writer at CASW-Media.

How did you get your start at CASW? In what ways has the agency changed since you started and, furthermore, in what ways have you changed?

“I started at CASW while I was still in school, beginning as both a program facilitator with Workforce and an activity specialist with PS 115. Given my background in communications/media, Julissa reached out to me about the agency’s burgeoning media team. Of course, I was excited about the opportunity to be a part of something new and since then, I’ve been really proud to see how we’ve found new, effective ways to let people know about the important work CASW does. As for me, being a part of this team has made me aware of the ways my work has a real impact, both in the immediate CASW-community and beyond.”

Where would you personally like to see the organization go in the future?

“Personally, I would love to see the agency expand through more partnerships and events – opportunities to meet partner organizations and get in touch with more communities. The work that we do here is very formative in the lives of so many young people, so I would love to see CASW provide similar opportunities to even more people around NYC.”

What is your most impactful memory at CASW?

“For Earth Month 2024, we put together the ‘Love Nature, Love Your Block’ campaign, which sought to beautify our local green spaces and encourage sustainable practices amongst participants and staff. One of our culminating events was at a community garden here in the Bronx, and I think it was a sort of watershed moment for me. We had spent over a month planning for that day and all of a sudden, here were all these people, of different generations and backgrounds, united toward a common purpose. Suddenly, my day-to-day work felt really meaningful.”
