Children’s Arts and Science Workshops, in partnership with Cityarts Inc. and DYCD, recently had the opportunity to host NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and DYCD Commissioner Sandra Escamilla-Davies at a Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) worksite in the Bronx.
Building the Future of NYC Youth Through Art and Partnership
CASW has been a proud provider of DYCD-Workforce programs for nearly 30 years. For almost three decades, we’ve been a stepping stone for countless young people – not just as a first job, but often as their first experience being a part of something bigger and giving back to their community! We share this mission with our longtime work site, CITYarts, an organization dedicated to connecting young people with artists and introducing them to public art in the form of murals and mosaics. Together, we seek to educate participants and help them realize their potential to lead their communities.
NYC Mayor Joins SYEP Youth at the Shakespeare Steps
This visit could not have come at a better time; our participants at Cityarts Inc. have been working for several weeks and are currently painting a mural on the famous Shakespeare Steps in the West Bronx. The mayor spoke with participants and partners at the local landmark and even did some painting himself! The young people present met with the mayor to discuss their experience with SYEP and their upcoming projects. Also in attendance were New York State Senator Jose M. Serrano and our other partners at Stapledon Arts, both of whom came to show their support for NYC youth and their creative vision.
Building the Future Through Community Partnerships
This event highlights the power of local collaborations within our city. CASW is grateful for our partnerships with both Cityarts and DYCD; together we’re able to reach high school and college students around the city and provide local opportunities that will shape their future. We’re also beyond appreciative of Mayor Mamdani and his support for youth-centered programs like ours.
Together, we hope to continue serving current and future generations of New Yorkers.
