This summer, our Ladders for Leaders participants worked with the Office of Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda, gaining valuable insight into government, community engagement, and public service.
Behind the Scenes: Constituent Services and Daily Impact
Each Summer, CASW takes pride in connecting youth with educational opportunities in their communities, many of which will shape them to be the leaders of tomorrow. Naturally, when they have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience that serves the community, we’re very excited to see how their projects turn out. In the case of this specific internship, participants had daily interactions with constituents – either by answering phone calls, referring constituents to appropriate agencies based on their concerns, or even preparing briefs for office staff.
By the end of the summer, participants will use their experiences to complete a capstone project, in which they will research an issue facing the community and analyze local data to propose potential solutions.
Connecting Youth to Career-Defining Opportunities
At the end of the day, these participants will not only gain a greater understanding of public policy and government procedures, but they will also have learned the critical thinking and people skills necessary to thrive in any career. We can’t wait to see how they wrap up this summer and use these lessons in future endeavors!
