Last month, a group of SYEPs had the opportunity to participate in a career panel and networking event with Morgan Stanley in their midtown offices. The event, which was open to high school seniors as well as college students, consisted of a panel of Morgan Stanley representatives who shared details about their roles and responsibilities. After which, attendees would have the chance to have lunch and speak with leaders across the company. The goal was to provide students with exposure to business culture and networking, both within Morgan Stanley and beyond.
Below are some key pieces of advice to be shared with all of our participants:
- Try to widen your network by always taking the chance to meet new people. Also, be constant in your efforts by keeping in touch (email, LinkedIn, etc.)
- You don’t have to be 100% certain of what you want to do once you graduate from college; a little bit of uncertainty can be a positive! In any case, it can help to be open to multiple opportunities. You just have to be willing to see where the road takes you.
- In addition to being open to opportunities, it also helps to be willing to learn new things. You should try to diversify your skills as much as possible as, in any career, it pays to be adaptable.
- You should be constant in the pursuit of your goals, but in order to achieve that, it’s important to have a strong support system that reminds you of your worth.
