CASW Profiles – Meet John Sosa

As a part of our ongoing series “CASW Profiles,” we’re on a mission to put faces to many well-regarded names around our agency. Through these rapid-fire interviews, we’re trying to highlight the stories, personalities, and perspectives that make up Children’s Arts and Science Workshops.

This month’s interviewee is John Sosa, an Outreach Coordinator/Recruiter for CASW-Workforce.

How did you get your start at CASW? In what ways has the agency changed since you started and, furthermore, in what ways have you changed?

“I represented CASW at City Hall alongside Mayor Eric Adams, which was televised throughout the country. Before this, I was a CASW participant juggling multiple summer jobs. After being hired for CASW as Outreach Coordinator, I have since helped create a connection between CASW and NYU, which I currently attend. Things have definitely changed, but only for the better. I am now assisting with Ladders for Leaders under CASW, recruiting NYU students and others. Personally, I have gained many valuable skills, however, the most important aspect would be the connections and relationships developed throughout my time at CASW. I was able to create a connection between CASW and my high school (AMS) while being a full time student. Now, I do the same but at one of the best universities in the country. I have made great friends and loved engaging with the community.”

Where would you personally like to see the organization go in the future?

“I would love for the organization to expand outside of New York City (NJ perhaps) and partner with more schools such as NYU. College students are eager for internships, especially during the summer after an intense semester. As a undergrad myself, finding students who are seeking internships is never a bother.”

What is your most impactful memory at CASW?

“Aside from representing CASW – next to the mayor, I would say my most impactful memory would be creating job opportunities in my underrepresented community in the South Bronx. I helped family and friends engage in summer jobs that were offered by CASW and maintained constant communication with them as I juggled school and being a varsity basketball player.”
