CASW loves celebrating the unique communities that we serve! This past weekend, we got to celebrate a neighborhood that is near and dear to our hearts during Dyckman Day; which was an amazing opportunity to uplift one of the places we like to call home! The day was certainly one to remember as all of our partners got together to share resources with our neighbors and even inject a little fun into a summer Saturday!

From Art Projects to Local Services—A Day for All Ages
Dyckman Day is an event all about (you guessed it!) Dyckman – its residents, its culture, and the unique programs and opportunities available to everyone living there. CASW was present with our very own tent where attendees could stop by and partake in a special, Dyckman-themed art project or even answer a couple of questions for our summer interview series (keep an eye out on our socials for more information!!!). We’d also like to take this moment to give a shoutout to Isaiah Alicea, Co-Director of Dyckman-Cornerstone, who received an outstanding leadership award from the Dyckman Resident Association. Thanks to him and our other Co-Director, Ishanel Acosta, Dyckman Community Center is a thriving part its community!

Why Events Like Dyckman Day Matter for Stronger Neighborhoods
At the end of the day, events like Dyckman Day are vital to EVERY community. Programs like CASW-Cornerstone are designed to meet the needs of residents of all ages – providing services like Zumba and self defense lessons, job preparation, childcare, youth mentorship, support for senior citizens, etc. Beyond these specific initiatives, community centers also function as third space within their respective neighborhoods; it’s a place, beyond home and work, where we can foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie across generations.
This is why it is so important that we use events like Dyckman Day to publicize the important work of these programs – and get to know the people that make it all possible!
