Do you dream of your art making it to the big screen? Did you ever watch Saturday morning cartoons and feel a twinge of inspiration? We think our COMPASS participants at PS/MS 37 are pursuing those very same sentiments. Through an exclusive invitation from DreamWorks Pictures, our participants had the opportunity to see some of the official concept art for their latest release, “Dog Man,” and even tried their hand at recreating their own versions of the character!

Inspiring Future Animators: A DreamWorks Experience at PS/MS 37
It’s no secret that this opportunity was especially fun for participants, the chance to use their creativity is always well-received, and even more so when it involves a popular kids’ movie. However, we think that this activity means so much more; getting a glimpse of the animation process and seeing that drawings like theirs have real-world applications, such as the big screen! Even for those who are not artistically inclined, drawing has a number of benefits; namely serving as an outlet for self-expression and emotional well-being.

The Impact of Real-World Learning Experiences in the Classroom
At times like these, we like to highlight the importance of bringing real-world experiences to the classroom, especially with the help of our wonderful partners. It is immensely helpful to provide young people with a glimpse of the amazing possibilities through hands-on activities that differ from usual school work. After all, our main goal is to inspire them to use their imaginations as they look toward the future.
