One of CASW’s greatest values is community and, in order to build authentic communities, practicing simple acts of kindness goes a long way. That’s why we’re proud to recount that our CASW-Cornerstone program at Dyckman Community Center dubbed the month of March “Kindness Month,” dedicating the full four weeks to spreading love and positivity around the whole neighborhood. Whether our focus is within the classroom or the wider neighborhood, the impact of our participants is sure to be felt beyond CASW.

Affirmation Cards for Seniors – Spreading Joy & Appreciation
One of the most beautiful aspects of a community is when different generations get together and learn from one another. As a part of Kindness Month, participants gave out cards of appreciation to the neighborhood elders; wiith some heartfelt messages and handmade details, we were able to bring warmth, encouragement, and positivity to residents of the local senior center. These handmade cards featured messages, inspiring quotes, and artwork designed to brighten their day and remind them that they are valued and appreciated.
Kindness Rocks Project – Spreading Positivity One Rock at a Time
The “Kindness Rocks Project” was yet another simple yet powerful way to spread positivity and encouragement throughout our community. Participants painted small rocks with their own personalized affirmations and designs, placing them in parks, sidewalks, and community spaces for others to find. Each rock serves as a reminder that kindness is everywhere and that even small gestures can brighten someone’s day.
Shout-Out Wall – Celebrating Kindness & Appreciation
As part of Kindness Month, CASW-Dyckman introduced a Shout-Out Wall, a dedicated space where students, staff, and community members can recognize and appreciate one another. This interactive display allows people to give shout-outs to those who have shown kindness, support, or made a positive impact. The exercise promoted community bonding and helps members to strengthen their connections through active expressions of gratitude.
Of course, practicing random acts of kindness doesn’t end after the month of March, but this certainly is the start of a remarkable lifelong habit!!!
