ABOUT Learn & Earn AT CASW

The CASW: Learn and Earn Program offers high school juniors and seniors comprehensive support through work readiness training, college preparation, leadership development, mental and sexual health education, and employment opportunities. This program empowers high school juniors and seniors with the academic, technical, and essential life skills needed to access higher education, secure employment, achieve social empowerment, and realize opportunities within their local community. Participants also cultivate stronger self-advocacy and community advocacy skills.

The program operates year-round, Monday through Friday, evenings, and weekends to accommodate participants’ schedules. The host school for Learn and Earn is the Assembly Charter School for Computer Science High School, 447 Wales Avenue, Bronx, NY 10455.

This program is funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request for individuals with disabilities. TTY #711.

About Shati Farjana

Born and raised in Bangladesh, Shati moved to the United States in 2013 to begin a new chapter in life. In 2014, she started her educational journey as a high school freshman. Motivated by a deep passion for health and community well-being, she went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Food, and Nutrition from CUNY Lehman College in 2021. Continuing her dedication to youth development and advocacy, she completed a Master’s degree in Youth Studies in 2023.

Her professional journey began in 2017 at CASW through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The following year, they participated in the Work, Learn & Grow (WLG) program, which led to a role as a program aide. Over time, she advanced through several key positions—first as a program coordinator at the James Monroe campus, then as Senior Coordinator—and currently serve as the Site Director for the Learn and Earn program. Throughout each stage of her career, Shati have remained committed to empowering young people and creating meaningful, impactful learning experiences.
