When we band together to beautify our communities, it’s like we leave a little piece of ourselves in the places we call home. That’s why when our SYEP participants started a mural on the iconic Shakespeare Steps (You might know them if you’re a Bronx native, or if you’ve seen the “Joker” movie!), we knew the project was something special. If you’ve checked our previous article on this project, then you’ll know that a few special visitors from DYCD and the Mayor’s Office stopped by while the mural was still in progress to give the participants some encouragement (CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT).
The Big Reveal: Celebrating Hard Work and Mastery at the Ribbon-Cutting
Now, we’ve reached the end of SYEP 2026, and the mural is ready to be unveiled. On Thursday, August 13th, CASW attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Shakespeare steps alongside our partners at CITYarts Inc. The ceremony was a fitting conclusion to the last couple of weeks and served as a celebration of the participants’ hard work, creativity, and dedication to making the Bronx even more beautiful. Each participant received a certificate marking their completion of the program and the level of mastery shown in the completed project. We speak for everyone when we say that CASW, Cityarts Inc, and the citizens of the Bronx owe much thanks to these talented young people.
A Summer to Remember: Honoring Our Supporters and Community
This summer has been unforgettable, and now we have a new and improved landmark as a reminder of SYEP 2026. However, as we’ve said in the past, projects like this are made possible by the support of local leaders; therefore, we’d like to thank Senator Jose M. Serrano for his support of the arts, youth, and community initiatives.
