Dyckman Community Center Students Witness College Hoops at MSG

At the end of the day, for CASW, our participants will always be the real MVPs. We think this is especially relevant for our Cornerstone participants at Dyckman Community Center, who recently had the opportunity to venture beyond the classroom and even the community – to attend a basketball game at one of the most famous venues in the world!!!

Setting the Stage: A Special Invitation to Madison Square Garden

At the invitation of the Office of the Manhattan Borough President, our middle and high school participants were able to attend a live college basketball game between St. John’s University vs. Xavier University at Madison Square Garden. This outing represents more than just a fun night out – this is an exciting opportunity for youth to witness the high-energy of world collegiate sports.

Beyond the Classroom: A Firsthand Look at Collegiate Athletics

The ultimate objective of these outings is to give participants a glimpse beyond their daily environment and – by extension – a glimpse toward the future. For many grade schoolers, college may seem distant and a lot of hard work, with the latter being true in many cases. However, witnessing a college sporting event is, in and of itself, a lesson on how both work and discipline pay off.
