As an NYC non-profit organization that targets youth, we consider curiosity one of our greatest values. It’s the driving force that makes our participants ask bigger questions, and learn valuable lessons along the way. Of course, we owe this drive to our staff members, who encourage these traits both in and outside the classroom. In the latest installment of CASW Profiles, we’re sitting down with Aly Hernandez, a curious and driven Group Leader at PS 115. Aly’s passion for science education and dedication to being a mentor to her students is the secret behind her success as a Group Leader. Join us as she tells us about her favorite CASW memories, her personal inspiration, and favorites.
How did you get your start at CASW? In what ways has the agency changed since you started and, furthermore, in what ways have you changed?
“I was introduced to this amazing organization that helps kids become more interested in the sciences. It’s an amazing way to show kids from all over the city how fun it is to explore and experiment. It showed me what patience and dedication can mean for these children.”
Where would you personally like to see the organization go in the future?
“I would like the organization to expand their services to any child interested in a science career.”
What is your most impactful memory at CASW?
“It was my first Christmas working with CASW and we had a little party with the kids. I was surrounded by them and listening to different kids sharing why they like coming to afterschool. It made that day super special.”
