Children's Arts & Science Workshops, Inc.
Children’s Arts & Science Workshops has called PS115 home for the past twenty-years, operating the COMPASS program for families at PS115. Under the guidance of Director Grace Valera and Assistant Director Jackie Duran, participants at PS115 can be expected to gain hands-on experience in science and arts through our comprehensive after school program.
From coding to structured cultural dances and shows, participants at PS115 obtain a well-rounded and safe environment where kids can learn while having fun. We are a fully bilingual program, addressing the cultural and language needs of the community in Washington Heights. Families are encouraged to register early for placement as both our summer and afterschool programs fill up quickly, if you have any questions please reach out to the program director directly!
Grace Valera joined CASW in 2001 and has served as the Program Director of PS 115 for over 20 years. Throughout her tenure, she has been a steadfast source of support and empowerment for youth and families from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating a strong dedication to uplifting the PS 115 community. Grace continues to spearhead transformative programs that positively impact the lives of numerous youth in the Washington Heights community.
Her most cherished aspect of her work is uniting community resources for the benefit of her participants and their families, particularly through collaborative partnerships. When asked about the key to excelling in her role as director, Grace attributes much of her success to open communication and a willingness to learn from everyone around her. Her aspiration is to instill this same sense of community spirit in future generations.
