September is at an end, and we’re counting down the days until the next season here at CASW-Workforce: Work, Learn, and Grow. For those who are new to our programming, WLG is a DYCD initiative aimed toward youth ages 16-21 who are enrolled in public school. Over the next 6 months, participants will have the opportunity to further strengthen their work-readiness skills, receive academic support, and explore future careers.
How Does WLG Work?
WLG is divided into two phases; during phase I, participants undergo an educational component in which they take courses for college credit and brush up on their skills. This phase focuses on helping students from various backgrounds to understand the finer points of professional life; whether that’s crafting a resume, sending effective emails, or interviewing for their dream job. At CASW-Workforce, we like to think of it as our chance to get to know them as they prepare for their debut into the workplace!
Later on, phase II focuses on the practical application of those skills through a paid internship. Participants have the chance to apply to a selection of opportunities through a variety of fields and career paths. This process provides them hands-on experience in interviewing for their desired position, and later integrating into a real-life workplace.
CASW-Workforce as a WLG Provider:
During past seasons of WLG, we’ve delighted in embarking on this journey alongside countless participants. Through hosting events like interview workshops and speed-reviews for resumes, we are always cognizant of the fact that, for many young people, we’re their first introduction to the working world. We look forward to yet another season of guiding students as they grow into young professionals.
Stay tuned: WLG’s application phase begins on Monday, October 7th!!!
