In 2021, the NYPD partnered with the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the City’s District Attorneys, and community-based organizations to open 100 gyms and expand its “Saturday Night Lights” (SNL) program. SNL started as a summer program providing free youth sports programming on Saturday nights.
SNL has since expanded into a year-long program, operating in educational spaces throughout NYC to provide 11-18-year-olds a safe space to gain mentorship, work alongside the NYPD to rebuild community trust and relationships, and obtain instruction in athletic and sporting activities.
Through our Beacon and Cornerstone programs, CASW currently operates three SNL programs.
